Black and White hat

My mom wanted me to do white on black, as she feels it would be popular. This hat has an added feature. It's got little LED lights in the front of the cap. I want to make more, but they will be colors. I like colors.The braid is from Jane's bookmark. I started the butterfly from The Gentle Art of Tatting Things We Love by Patricia Ann Rizzo. I did her butterfly body, but struggled with the wings she'd designed. So I made my own wings.

Crinoline Lady

This is Crinoline Lady, from Pam Palmer's "Tatting Treats Two" The color is Lizbeth Boysenberry dk #644. I was able to get a nice gradient background from GRSties. That's a free site where you can obtain prints for backgrounds. Such nice folks. I still need to tat some flowers around on the ground to imply a garden. Anyone have any thoughts?

Tatted Cross Bookmark

While I was visiting my mom (150 miles away) she asked me if I would tat a cross bookmark as a gift for a friend of hers. Mom has lots of very old, and some less old, Workbasket books. This was in the April 1955 book. I was able to do one for her, so I made another when I got home.

My friend, who's buying this angel, asked for a face. So there she is. I think I've seen some Chinese candy that has a face like that.

Butterfly cap

The butterflies on the brim are from Barb Foster. The one on the crown is from sarahwood8. She doesn't know the original source but is hoping someone will know. The thread is Lizbeth "Ocean Sunset" #155. I am happy with the end result. We'll see if it sells tonight.

Wee Dragonfly

Here's a pattern for my own "Wee Dragonfly."

Head Split ring 10/10
Split Ring 3 ds, picot (1 1/2 inches long) 3 ds/3ds picot (1 1/2 inches long) 3 ds,
Split ring 6/6.
Split 6/6.
Tie ends and put a dab of "Fray Check" on the knot. Cut. Use the ends of the top thread for an antenna.

I got this pattern from MercyPres. It's slated to go on a cap brim. Her's is so cute, I was inspired to make one also.

I was making Jane's bookmark with Lizbeth Ocean Sunset, and was really enjoying the pattern. So I kept going until I had a piece long enough for a cap. Hence, a Jane's bookmark cap.

Yet another bookmark

Jane's Bookmark

This bookmark was named for Jane Eborall and Jane McLellan. It's an adaption and modernization of a braid pattern from Anna Burda. I really enjoyed making the pattern. I've already started another one. The tail is all split rings and a little medallion.

I'm still enjoying making these. So many colors, so little time. I tried an onion ring on the flower. Not my best work. Oh well, I know now what Jane hates them.

More Spiral Bookmarks

Here are three more spiral bookmarks. I'm still having fun with them. The black and white one is particularly different. On the clovers, I added a tiny picot so I could attach them along the sides. That made them stay in their places better. And on the tail I did a spiral. It's just one half of the stitch for the whole way.

These aren't stiffened yet. I hope to do that right away and then I hope they dry in time to take to Farmers Market this afternoon. They have been adapted from edging #1, page 23 in Tatting Doilies and Edgings, Dover Press, edited by Rita Weiss. I've enjoyed making them and plan to make more with some of my new Lizbeth.

Silver Plated shuttle

This is my latest addition to my shuttle family. My hubby and I were at a museum at Fort Steele, British Columbia. There are several buildings, and some of them had things for sale. My hubby spotted this brass, silver plated shuttle. Now here is the odd part. On the other side of it was a metal loop for putting it on a chain. The lady who was manning that part of the museum was very interested in learning to tat. So I opened the package and she handed me some thread and I gave her a demo. Unfortunately, it was a very awkward demo, as the loop was keeping it from sliding nicely. Some snipping and sanding and it was free of that bit. I bought it mostly because it looks so nice. I prefer bobbin shuttles, but I will use it some.

My aqua size instructor likes my Sea Horses. She bought two and incorporated them onto a table runner as a birthday gift for her mother.

Big Doily

I made this about 12 years ago, when I first learned to tat. It was a Christmas present for my mother-in-law. When she passed away, in 2008, I got it back. Recently, I cleaned it and went to work and pushed out all the picots in the rings. What a job.

Another Butterfly

I saw where Janet Smith had made a blue butterfly. I liked it a lot, so I made one too. I'm going to try something different with the head on the next one.

Christmas Hearts butterfly

I made another butterfly using Anne Bruvold's Christmas heart. This time, I didn't put any picots on the center section, except where I wanted to attach it. Next time, I think I will put picots at the bottom, center part. I've already started another one. But, another time, I'd like to extend the top, far corners of the wings, a little. It had been awhile since I'd done one of these, and I struggled with the SCMR in the first two. Not so much the SCMR, but how I was going to attach the little ring that extents from the SCMR, to the Rc picot. Finally, got it right on the third heart.

Romantic Heart

This Heart was designed by Birgit and Beelizabeth wrote the pattern. There are some errors in the pattern, but they can be detected as long as a person watches the picture. I did make one mistake. But, I accomplished a split chain and a split ring.

Split chain

Jane gave me this site to learn the split chain. It is the best. I've watched it several times and my first tries were a little messy. But you soon learn that you want to keep the ds over to the left. And you leave the first half a little loose. Then you pull the second half to tighten the first then pull the shuttle to tighten the second half.
The next row is going to be a heart. I'll show it again when I'm finished.

Tatted Heart (valentine)

This pattern is from "free tatting patterns" It was confusing. I got some help from Patty D (thank you Patty), for part of it. That helped a lot. They should have said to use two shuttles. And it would have been better if it had been in actual numerical order. That's where Patty came in.

Froggies

These guys are from Pam Palmer's book Tatting Treats 2. The all  green one is the first one I tried and he has a small mistake. So I tried again. I needed some variety, so froggie 2 has a bit of pizazz. I dreamed up the little dragon flies myself, as I needed little ones. 

Five Heart's Desire

Susan K Fuller's Hearts Desire is still my favorite. I plan to put these on cards and put a pearl bead in every other ring. It makes it stand out pretty.

Fianlly

Well here's what I've been trying to make. I made a mistake. I was supposed to have 8 picots on the inner ring and I'd only put on 7. So I had to fudge. But, as least I've got the pattern figured. I want to make another and make it right. But I doubt I'll ever make it small enough for a big button. That super fine thread is very twisty.

Ugly Bunny has found a home

Just a quick note, to anyone concerned about my ugly bunny. I gave him to my gal friend who loves all bunnies. She adores him and will give him a happy, forever home. So, no worries, he will spend his life in a loving, happy burrow.

This is from Pam Palmer's book Tatting Treats 2. It took me awhile, as I had some comprehension problems. Another time, I would start the arms from the inside out, rather than from outside to in. I appreciate that she included diagrams, as that helps with where to attach at a picot, sometimes.
It's made from Lizbeth #20, Root Beer Float. I added some google eyes and put a little bow on it.

Sea Horses

These cute little guys were designed by Debbie Arnold in 1999. Thanks Debbie. There's lots of SS and RW in them. I hate having to set it down once I start, as I loose track of which shuttle and side I'm supposed to be on. Even if I've set it out like it should be when it's time to get back to it.
